What is Headless Development?
In a traditional DXP (Digital Experience Platform), the presentation of your site is generated by and linked directly to the DXP itself. Rejecting the chains of proprietary systems, headless development frees site presentation from the clutches of back-end systems. It is important to note that headless development does not require a headless-only DXP to implement. Many DXPs that support traditional presentation development can support headless development as well. Headless development at its simplest contains the following elements:

- That API handles delivering content to your decoupled presentation layer
- Your decoupled presentation layer can be whatever best-of-breed technology you prefer

Where Does Jamstack Fit?
Jamstack is a variation of the headless architecture. The JAM in Jamstack stands for Javascript, APIs and Markup.
- Javascript – The Javascript-based framework (React, Vue, etc) used by your decoupled headless front-end
- APIs – APIs consumed by your front-end, both from your CMS but also from any other tools
- Markup – Jamstack separates dynamic content from pre-built markup. This approach has many benefits for performance and scalability
